Our Manual Development Division organizes teams and assigns duties based on each client’s needs.

For long-term clients, we concentrate on improving efficiency and maintaining quality by streamlining our development process, reusing content, and standardizing data management.

For new clients, we concentrate on establishing a standard process. That involves improving the quality of all content, including designs and illustrations. It also means standardizing terminology, optimizing publishing formats, and ensuring one-stop multilingual production.

Our Marketing Communications Team consists of marketing content planners and copywriters. Together, they produce differentiated content that emphasizes the strengths and selling points of a product or service. Our content planners first identify those selling points and assess clients’ needs by analyzing products and services from various UX perspectives.

The materials we produce demonstrate why a product or service is excellent and unique. The content planners manage the business side, and the copywriters produce copy that aligns with the client’s objectives.

The end products include sales guides, multimedia content, and event planning materials. These can be used for publicity purposes or in point-of-purchase displays at retail stores.

Required Skills

To work with us, you need excellent writing skills and a sound understanding of buyers and sellers. You also need to be able to express information in a creative way.

Above all, our written content must be lively and emotionally engaging. It should tell a story. It should never be dry or boring.

This information must be conveyed through effective visuals, such as videos or images, in addition to text.

Manual localization is an elaborate process that involves more than translation. It also means respecting the regulations of different countries and regions, using culturally appropriate images, and carefully following a schedule to meet product release deadlines.

Above all, when localizing manuals in mobile web format, it’s important to have advanced publishing technology that supports various languages and media.

Hansem Global’s Multilingual Manual Development Team started localizing manuals in 2000. As of 2017, we produce localized manuals in 53 languages.

In any localization project, the existence of a standardized process can greatly influence language quality, as well as the cost of a project and the time it takes to complete.

Hansem Global’s Multilingual Manual Development Team is composed of project managers and desktop publishing experts. With many years of experience behind us, we ensure consistency in our manuals by standardizing production guidelines, terminology, translation styles, and writing conventions for each language. We also manage translation data and carefully track management histories. In addition, we’re constantly standardizing our production methods to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.

Required Skills

Team members must be able to multitask, manage projects, and coordinate the duties of multiple teams.

Multilingual desktop publishing experts oversee the production of more than 53 versions of a manual, and therefore must possess a wide range of knowledge and expertise. This includes a thorough understanding of production processes for different languages, and how to create universal templates that can be adapted for different languages. They should also be familiar with tools such as InDesign, XML, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.

Because project managers oversee a number of interconnected processes, they must be familiar with the translation, LQA, FQA, and QA requirements of different countries and regions. They must also understand multilingual desktop publishing, as well as the processes of image and HTML conversion for various languages. They must be prepared to interact effectively with local clients and to take responsibility for every phase of a project, starting with an analysis of the source data. All team members must have excellent organizational skills to meet local launch dates. Strong English ability is essential as well. Good communication skills are necessary to coordinate the duties of various parties.

Quality Control

At Hansem Global, our quality standards are very high. We value quality over profit.

The Quality Control Team complies with ISO 9001 QMS process standards. ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and we are the one and only company that has acquired ISO 9001 QMS certification for manual development.

The distinguishing feature of our QMS is that the entire manual development process takes place in an organically connected system. We’ve built an effective quality-control system based on precise analysis, systematized on-the-job training, and clear delineation of duties for each process. This system also involves clearly outlining quality and form standards for future processes.

Our Quality Control Team consists of the FQA and QA groups. The FQA group verifies accuracy after comparing the operation of actual products and UI text with the information contained in a document. The QA group performs the final inspection of all work produced at each stage. QA results are analyzed every month to detect repetitive errors, to define errors, and to establish countermeasures. We then use the results to plan activities that will help us improve quality even further.

Meticulous attention to detail is crucial to any position on the Quality Control Team. You must have the necessary judgment to examine and define problems, as well as the perseverance to discover solutions.

Since the FQA group has to compare source and target texts, candidates who have majored in high-demand languages such as Chinese, Thai, or Arabic, and who also possess good English skills, have an advantage.

Localization Services

The Localization Services Team is composed of project managers, translators, reviewers, and LQA specialists.

Our translators are outstanding professionals with a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in various fields. Their specialties range from IT, gaming, and machinery to marketing and medical science. They work with us either as in-house employees or as freelancers.

Reviewers’ duties depend on the field and the client. They have the power to make decisions about the final product because they possess outstanding language skills, as well as a thorough knowledge of the project. Their decisions directly influence quality.

Our LQA specialists are part of our in-house staff. They find and eliminate translation errors. The LQA staff at Hansem Global produces customized checklists for each field and client in more than 40 major languages spoken throughout the world. LQA specialists refer to these checklists every time they assess the quality of a translation.

Project managers possess expertise and experience in carrying out various domestic and foreign projects. They are responsible for providing a realistic cost analysis and for optimizing our services to suit the client’s requirements.

They must also possess a thorough understanding of the localization process and translation tools; the ability to manage schedules and oversee changes; and the ability to respond to situations flexibly and promptly, even when working on projects that are not standardized.

Document Engineering

We develop document engineering, MT (machine translation) engine training, and project management solutions that are essential to the translation and localization processes.

The Document Engineering Team analyzes various source files in order to deliver the desired file format to the customer. Team responsibilities include software testing and the conversion and integration of files.

MT engine training, which involves using the latest artificial intelligence technology to produce optimized automated translations, is another important role for the team. By analyzing the error patterns that result from input during the pre-editing and post-editing stages, team members help the machines accumulate the appropriate terminology for various subject areas and document types.

At the program development stage, we help clients reduce time and costs by automating the document development and localized production processes. Standard sentence management systems, multilingual UI string management systems, and translation project management systems are among the solutions that we typically employ.

Required Skills

Prospective team members must be willing to continually challenge themselves, and to educate themselves on an ongoing basis even when working on familiar projects. The ability to define problems precisely and approach them from a multifaceted perspective is crucial.

Team members must also be proficient in programming languages such as C# and .NET.

To carry out web development, they must be able to perform bootstrap and script-based data communication.

A clear understanding of the document development and localization processes is required.

Good communication skills are necessary to navigate the differing perspectives of various teams.

Translation Resource Management

We recruit, hire, train, and manage domestic and foreign translators. To meet the needs of our diverse client base, we seek translators who possess experience and skills in a variety of subject areas.

Translation resource management involves finding, evaluating, and training professional translators in Korea and abroad who possess the necessary experience and skills. For this reason, we also establish ties with schools and local agencies to develop training programs in countries and regions with inadequate translation services.

It is the translators who determine 70 percent of a project’s translation quality. We provide a comfortable work environment and manage schedules so that our translators can concentrate on quality. We also retrain translators and operate an effective incentive system based on translation quality, in cooperation with the LQA team.

Required Skills

Since team members must communicate with translators and subcontractors in different countries, they require outstanding English communication skills as well as a thorough understanding of the localization process and related technology.

We design all manuals and marketing materials for Hansem Global.

The UB Design Team is divided into three parts: Graphic Design, Illustration, and UI Design.

The Graphic Design Team visualizes the main features or selling points of a product to make them easier for customers to understand, while at the same time capturing the brand essence.

As the information and mobile environments advance, the role of the Graphic Design part continually expands. This part creates motion graphics for UI interaction and produces demo videos.

The Illustration part creates 2D and 3D illustrations so that users can clearly understand how a device works and what each part is called. This part produces technical illustrations for various products, such as cameras, printers, and even semiconductor equipment.

The UI Design part establishes the design concept and performs designing services. As mobile design is becoming more interactive and dynamic than ever before, prototyping has become increasingly important. The part utilizes tools and technology such as Sketch and ProtoPie to express design concepts effectively.

Required Skills

Because many projects are in progress at any given time, team members must be proactive in identifying and solving problems under pressure.

Team members must also have a high level of understanding of visual design and must demonstrate strength in at least one related area—for example, typography, motion graphics, or branding. Even more important is the ability to visualize technologies in an engaging way.

In addition, the ability to navigate conflicting opinions that arise during a project is also very important.

Development of Publishing Solutions

We perform the research and development activities that enable Hansem Global to compete in the rapidly evolving field of information technology. The production support tools we develop are changing the way manuals are created.

The System Development Team, which develops publishing solutions, consists of three sections: web development, application program development, and app development. These three areas are organically connected, working together to develop solutions that meet the complicated requirements of our clients.

We typically carry out HTML conversion, which enables simultaneous production of a print version of a document as well as an HTML5 version for web and mobile use. This conversion process entails HTML template management.

In addition, to meet the ever-evolving requirements of the mobile environment and ensure that our work reflects the latest technology and design concepts, we continually perform research on the Android and iOS systems. We also develop software verification and validation programs and support the automation of unit processes for the production of manuals.

Required Skills

This is an area that, for the most part, has not seen much development. The main requirements include a pioneering spirit and the ability to think creatively.

Team members must be able to use HTML5, the latest versions of CSS and JavaScript, HTML and CSS coding for the web, and programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, and PHP.

Team members must also be prepared to study numerous manuals and gain a thorough understanding of multilingual processing methods. The ability to identify customer needs precisely, to define problems precisely, and to take a multifaceted approach when carrying out projects is essential as well.

The ability to navigate conflicting opinions is crucial, since our team must work with many other teams throughout the course of a project.

We continually strive to make our training program more effective, and we welcome feedback about our training methods and course content. The best thing about Hansem Global’s training program is that it allows the company and its employees to grow together.

General Training

Hansem Global’s training program starts on the day an employee joins the company. We provide support to help every new hire adapt to the workplace, acquire valuable job skills, and grow as a leader.

For their first two or three years with us, our employees complete various training courses designed to cultivate life skills as well as job skills. They focus on business etiquette, preparation of documents, stress management, and effective communication.

In cooperation with an outside professional agency, we then offer more specialized courses—for example, courses on leadership, quality control, problem solving, presentations, and marketing. Sometimes we invite outside experts to visit to strengthen our employees’ capabilities. After all, it’s our junior-level staff members who will form the front lines of the organization when they are promoted—first to the assistant manager level and then to management.

Employees can also customize the training curriculum to remedy their shortcomings. We conduct training in stages so that our employees can grow into their roles.

Training continues even after an employee reaches the director level. Our senior-level employees study such topics as fostering human resources, maximizing an organization’s performance, managing risks, cultivating a sound organizational culture, and other special topics that are relevant to their specific job roles.

The training curriculum at Hansem Global is continually updated. We’re always striving to make it more effective because we believe that an investment in training is an investment in people.

Technical Training
(Job Training)

Various tasks at Hansem Global involve specialized skills that are not yet widespread in Korea. These include developing manuals, localizing materials into 72 languages, and multilingual DTP, FQA, and LQA.

Training in these skills, therefore, takes place on the job. Each of our junior employees is matched with a senior employee in a mentorship that might last three months, six months, or a year. That’s how they learn how to handle difficult, complicated, and extremely important projects.

Experts in various fields serve as mentors at Hansem Global. As such, they guide, encourage, and lead the way for junior employees to grow into professionals with adequate field experience.

Our employees benefit enormously from the practical experience they gain through mentorships. This is how they grow into their roles as experts in the technical communications industry. Over many years, they gain the skills and knowledge they need to handle important tasks—real-world knowledge that can’t be found in books.

Intensive Professional Training

Whether it’s through an outside agency or as part of Hansem Global’s internal training program, our employees receive professional training and gain expertise in their chosen fields.

For technical writers, we’ve defined a career path for the first time in Korea. Our internal certification program specifies the qualities one needs, as well as the training and experience required, to become a “guru.” Writers start as rookies at Level 1 and work their way up to Level 5.

In areas where Korea lacks adequate knowledge and materials to train technical communications professionals, we often provide online training through specialized overseas agencies. Alternatively, we might invite foreign experts to conduct training sessions at our headquarters. In 2013, ten of our technical writers acquired certification after training with the world-renowned Simplified Technical English trainer Dr. Frans Wijima. In 2017, ten linguists and project managers in our Language Services Division took the MT Post-editing course and acquired certification. Two people acquired TCTrainNet’s Level 1 Technical Communicator Certificate. At the end of July 2017, a third group of Hansem Global employees started TCTrainNet’s training program at the junior level.

Participation in Various Domestic and Foreign Conferences

Hansem Global employees have ample opportunities to experience the latest technology at workshops, exhibitions, and conferences in Korea and abroad. This hands-on experience builds valuable knowledge and helps employees stay informed about industry trends.

Major foreign conferences where we have a presence each year include tcworld, hosted by tekom, in Germany; the STC Summit in the United States; the JTCA symposium in Japan; and Localization World, hosted by GALA and held in various countries throughout the world. We also play an active role in technology seminars and conferences in various fields to ensure that we can identify emerging trends and respond quickly.

In addition, our experts frequently speak at conferences and share their knowledge with other technical communications professionals around the world.
