Use this checklist after producing each localized print PDF and before approving printer handoff. It covers color management, image resolution, bleed and trim, PDF/X, fonts, folding, binding, barcodes, and production evidence. Perform an automated file review followed by an independent physical and specification review.
Companion guide: Multilingual Manual Print Preflight QA (Part 7). The printer’s written specifications and agreed production workflow always take precedence over illustrative values such as 3 mm bleed or 300 ppi imagery.

Instructions and risk ratings
A · Critical (8): Zero unresolved applicable failures before submission. B · Major (9): Target zero; document any authorized exception, risk, owner, and next action. No Minor controls are assigned.
For each check, mark Format owner (Self) and Reviewer separately as Pass, Fail, or N/A, then record evidence or an N/A explanation. N/A applies only when a process or feature is genuinely absent. A flat label, for example, may not need folding or binding; a product without barcodes may mark the barcode item N/A.
Run measurable preflight checks on every released language PDF. Use a documented risk-based sample for physical proofs where appropriate, considering each script, fold and print process. Do not substitute sampling for verification of a known locale-specific risk.

Frequently asked questions
- Do we need all 17 checks for every language? Apply every relevant control. Automated measurable properties should be checked in every released PDF. Use approved representative language proofs only where sampling is justified.
- How long will preflight take? It depends on page count, number of locales, source quality, and automation. Budget separately for file review, correction, physical fold tests, and approval; never use elapsed time as a substitute for evidence.
- When is N/A allowed? Only when the feature or production step does not exist. A single-sheet card may have no binding or fold; a label without a barcode may not need item 14. Missing time or missing evidence is a Fail, not N/A.
- What if a Critical defect remains? Hold printer handoff, correct the file, and repeat affected checks. Any exceptional decision requires accountable written authorization and cannot override printer, contractual, or safety requirements.
- What records should be retained? Keep this completed checklist, preflight logs, approved printer specification, proof and fold-dummy decisions, barcode scan evidence, submitted PDF revision, and supplier acknowledgment. Transfer them to Part 8 asset management.
